Great Baddow Cricket Club is proud of its strong bonds with the community and enjoys supporting and engaging with local initiatives. Consumers are known to form strong positive associations with sponsors who support the development of grassroots sport and also contribute to the local area and by directly supporting us, you’re helping to remove economic barriers — making cricket affordable, accessible and inclusive for all in the community.

History of Our Club

Great Baddow Cricket Club has a long and proud tradition dating back to the first recorded game in 1791. After the Second World War, the Club moved from its old ground at Estric in Galleywood Road and began to play at their present home, Great Baddow Recreation Ground.

The Club currently compete in the Mid Essex Cricket League on a Saturday, with the First Team in Premier Division and the Seconds in Division 7 and Thirds in Division 11. We also have a Sunday XI and 20/20 XI with a full list of friendly matches against local clubs.

In 1999 it became clear that the Club was not attracting sufficient young members to guarantee its long-term survival. An ambitious Development Plan was drawn up in partnership with Essex County Cricket Club and Great Baddow High School. Subsequent Lottery funding was secured which allowed us to introduce grassroots coaching in the area.

As a result, we now have thriving youth section which competes in the Central Essex Cricket Board’s Under 15, Under 13, Under 11 and Under 9. In 2007, we became an ECB Focus Club. In the 2014 season we will have 20 youth players representing district and County level which demonstrates excellent progress in the development of the players. Many of our youth members have gone on to represent and establish themselves in our senior teams.

Club members, family and friends also enjoy many social events throughout the year including a tour to Sussex and quiz nights. Our two major events are the family day when all the colts and senior members take part in a variety of cricket competitions on a Sunday during the season and the annual presentation evening held at the end of the season.

During the season, net sessions and coaching takes place at the Rec and during the winter regular coaching and nets continue at Writtle Cricket Centre, Skeggs Farm.

Aspirations

With membership and crowd attendances rising, we have ambitious plans to continue to develop the infrastructure at the club and grow our teams.

Naturally, we want to support our sponsors and build them in to our club on a strategic level — allowing all of our partners to benefit from our ever-improving facilities, expanding audience and our community involvement.
